The Nurture Niche Walking Meditations
Our first ever meditation walk was a huge success! The aim was to give the members of the Nurture Niche Group a new experience on meditation. Meditation is a very important tool in helping us to become clear, calm and peaceful.
The topic was Happiness and Peace and it was influenced by Thich Nhat Hanh, a teacher that I have learned so much from. As we went down towards the rose garden we were met by the most beautiful display of rhododendrons in my brand colours, imagine that, pink blue and lilac, then the most heavenly perfume from a little white flowery shrub with a purple centre wafted through the passageway as we went towards the bridge. Just divine.
The rose garden in the Botanic Gardens has a lovely layout. It has pathways crossing in different directions. For those taking part in the walk, they were offered a choice as to which path was for them, just like we make choices in life.
The walk is silent, using the five senses and keeping our gaze low. Our power of observation just in the moment is what mindfulness is about.
I was really delighted to see the first rose shrub in our path was the peace rose. Then I thought, yes this is really the right place to do this today. The weather was beautiful, the sun shone for the time we were walking and the heat in the garden was really helpful for healing.
Afterwards we went to the coffee shop for coffee, cake and some serious fun. Women are wonderful beings of light. They are so supportive, loving and understanding of each other.
The lesson from today was to observe how easy or difficult you find it to be silent, to be quiet and to be patient with yourself. If you find it tough to stay quiet, then you just observe that, with no judgement of yourself and work on it the next time and try to extend the duration of the silence. In other words, enjoy the value of inner silence. Simple and easy that's what it is all about!
